Heart Shaped Ravioli

We got the gift or dessert done, right?

Of course you have to eat first before you get to the dirty dirty! Don’t act like you weren’t thinking it. We are adults here, and valentine’s day is linked to the dirty dirty. If not, I truly sorry, no person should suffer that way. If not, check in for Bar 101, you’ll love it!

Anyhow, you need to eat solid food of some sort. I’m here to the rescue! I have an idea that would knock the socks off of any one. You don’t have to be an excellent cook to make this dish. Just able to read a recipe and follow directions.

Valentine’s Day Ravioli!

Now, it sounds like a lot of work, but it’s really not. You could go to Costco’s and buy heart shaped ravioli if you don’t have the time, but if you are on a budget, you may want to go and do it yourself. You don’t need a pasta machine(I want one though) for this recipe. Just a little elbow grease and time.

Here’s the skivvy!:

Valentine’s Heart Ravioli

(You’ll need to make two batches of this)

1.5 cups Flour
1/4 tsp salt
1 egg
1/4 cup of water
(in the second batch, add red food coloring into the water)
1 heart shaped cookie cutter
rolling pin
big pot to cook ravioli

Sift flour and salt together in a bowl. Dump contents on a flat surface, and make a well in the middle. Crack open the egg, and drop in the middle of the well opening. Using your hand or a fork, break the yolks and beat the eggs slightly. Combine eggs and flour together gradually adding the warm water. Once it has a dough consistentcy, let rest for an hour before you continue.

Cut dough in half and roll out with a rolling pin or a tool like a rolling pin on a flat surface. You then want spoon in your filling, about 1/2 tbsp spoon at a time. Space out the filling as you place it on the dough. You’ll place the other rolled out half over the top of that sheet. Then get a heart shaped cookie cutter, and cut out your ravioli. Take a fork with each one, and go around the edges, pressing the fork in the dough. Your making sure they are sealed and nothing with come out of the dough.

Get a big pot and fill with water. Boil for 25 minutes or until dough is cooked and soft. Strain out the ravioli, and add sauce.

Side Note: For this purpose, I’l be using/showing a turkey mushroom filling in this recipe. You can get creative witht he fillings, just remember to make sure the raviolis are sealed tight. If you feel like the raviolis aren’t sealed tight, you can use water or an egg to seal them. Just brush the water/egg around the filling before you place the other half on top and use the cookie cutter.

Cook in the sauce for another 30 minutes, and serve with a salad or whatever you prefer. As you see in the video, it’s not hard, just time comsuming. Could be fun. Could even have the other half help you out in the kitchen while you do it!

The possibilities are endless!
