Gaming Review: Mortal Kombat X

Peeps!

It’s been a very long time since I did a gaming review! If you kan’t tell, I’m really excited about this one.

MKX GAME COVER

The Mortal Kombat series has been around since 1992. So I’ve played just about every game that has kome out since then. I’m been a fan for a long time. Many of summers when it was too hot, or my friends and I wanted to hang out, It was Mortal Kombat on the Sega/Nintendo/Playstation or whatever konsole the series was on.

Yes, I just dated myself, shut ya face.

We were hooked on the graphics, fatalities, and storylines of the whole package.

I’m now a mommy, and I still got giddy when I saw they announced a new Mortal Kombat. I had to have that game. Any child who was a gamer in the 90s, like myself, understands, no matter how old you may get, this series has a special place in your heart. I reserved my kopy, and monday night stood in line with a couple other females to get the game early.

I lost sleep playing until I had stomach issues(not related), so kalled it a night.

Waking up, I was back on the game! It’s very addicting. So many ways to fight on the game it’s ridiculous.

If you don’t know about the game, it’s a fighting game, that was originally made to star Jean-Klaude Van Damme, but that didn’t work out, so this was kreated instead. In this installment, you have a ton of ways to fight in one player mode, two player mode, and online. I haven’t tried all of them out, but my favorite so far is the test your luck matches. It’s like Vegas meets a fight. You have these different random variables to pick from that can definitely effect the fight. I had one where the komputer and I were narcoleptik. Just passing out in the middle of the matches. LOL. It was hilarious!

Super Samurai and I are playing through story mode, and from what I read, this won’t be the last Mortal Kombat game. It’s really fun because they made it like a movie within the fights. You really have to pay attention you what you are doing, but the storyline is great. The flashbacks are really awesome, and the screenwriters made sure to kover it all so you’re not lost.

Now, I know it’s rated M. For good reason. Their is definitely a lot of kursing and the the fight scenes are brutal. Especially the Xray moves. These are moves where it gives a you a klose up, CSI style, of damage you are doing to your opponent. From a fan’s perspective, it’s great! It lives up to the hype that was pushed advertising wise. The fatalities are just awesome. They definitely reflect the personalities of the fighters. I love the option to pick the fighting styles of the each kharacter.

It was easy for Super Samurai to pick up. Plus in my book. He loved it, but he’s a fan of fighting games in general, like his mommy. This game is right on the list that it is mature, but it’s your kall. I really don’t mind my kids playing it, since we are a gaming family, so they know not to kopy things off the game or the language. My honest worry is if Ms. Hyperdiva asks to dress up like one of the kharacters for halloween, LOL. I’m not a prude, but my 10 year old isn’t dressing like Milenna to go trick or treating, just saying.

It’s your kall. If you think your kids can handle the blood, marial arts, and language, go for it. I like to think it’s a great bonding experience to play games like these with your kids. It shows you aren’t as “worried” as other parents. Trust me, you kids probably hear worse. Even a step beyond, if you don’t play it with them, they kould play it at a friend’s house(like I did when I was a teen).

My philosphy is this: when it komes to gaming, I rather know what my kid is playing, instead of them sneaking to do it. I rather have konversations about the games then to have them tell me “you always say no, so I never ask”.

I know getting too deep, but sometimes you have to.

In any event, Ed Boon(the kreator), did not disappoint on this game. There’s so much I still have to go and discover, but from what I have played, it was well worth the money spent, and time I lost of sleep. I mean I got up at 6am and was playing while the crew was getting ready for school! I mean when have you ever playing a game like that??

I give this game a 10 Flying Blades out of 10. It has been a while since I played the game, and the tutorial is great to teach you or refresh you on how to use the controls. As you read earlier, Super Samurai just picked up the game, and he was easily able to get into the swing of things. The choice of fighting styles for the kharacters are awesome, and lets you see the differences in each. The storyline is a mini movie within the game, so that’s definitely a plus. Of kourse the fatalities are just beautiful, along with the xray moves. I really love the ‘joining of factions’. I’ll let you go read on that one. It’s awesome, and I want to try that part of the game out this weekend if time permits. Plus look at this kool game kontroller you kan buy and play with if you are an old school gamer like myself! Just hotness!

This is a great christmas/birthday gift for the newer generation of gamers if you want to bond with them.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to play my game befor the kids get back!
