Round two of recipes I want to try!
Now the funny thing about sloppy joes is how fast recipes and technique has changed over generations. I mean I was taught the ”You get manwich, ground turkey, and 30 minutes later you are done”.
Here’s the thing though, what happens if you have no money for a can of manwich? Better yet, what happens if you are just too lazy to go back to the store?
Yes, that second one was me, but seriously, do you have a game plan? I didn’t, then it hit me, what would my grandmother’s do?
Make it from scratch, and when I tell you, I’m not ever buying manwich again, I mean that.
Yes! Today’s Tasty Tuesday is a relearning of an old classic!
Here’s the recipe (my version)
Old School Sloppy Joes
3 pounds Ground Turkey, defrosted
2 tablespoons dried minced onion
1 green and yellow pepper, diced
2 cups water
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
4 tablespoons Brown Sugar
1 teaspoon yellow mustard
1 can diced tomatoes, drained
black pepper, garlic salt, and cayenne pepper to taste.
- Brown turkey, onion, and peppers until cooked.
- Add the remaining ingredients and mix in.
- cook down for 30 minutes.
Bonus: serve with texas toast instead of buns or bread.
I’ll say this, I’m truly with my grandma’s with this recipe. Somethings are better for scratch. Those timeis an issue, this didn’t take long at all. It also gave me enough leftovers that I could freeze half for Saturday!
